Terms & Conditions
By approving an estimate from The Light Elves Ltd., you agree to the following terms.
Estimates and Final Pricing
Estimates are based on the information and photos available at the time. Final strand counts, footage and materials are confirmed on installation day, and your invoice will reflect what was installed. Our minimum installation charge is $250.
Deposits
A deposit is required to confirm your booking: 50% for new clients and 25% for returning clients. Deposits may be paid by credit card and are applied to your final invoice. The card used for your deposit is kept on file.
Payment
Payment is due on the day your installation is completed. We accept e-transfer (to info@thelightelves.ca) or cheque. If payment hasn't been received within 3 days of completion, the balance will be charged to your card on file. Because card processing fees are charged to us, a 3% administration fee will be added to any balance paid by card. The Light Elves Ltd. retains ownership of all materials installed until payment is received in full.
Early Bird Pricing
Early Bird pricing applies to installation labour only, not to lights, materials or equipment. To qualify, your estimate must be approved by the Early Bird deadline stated on it, usually Thanksgiving. Booking early locks in your price, not a specific installation date.
Early Bird pricing is possible because it lets us schedule installs efficiently, grouping homes in the same area during the Early Bird season. By approving an Early Bird estimate, you agree to be ready for installation with as little as one to two days' notice.
If you will be away or unavailable during the Early Bird season, it is your responsibility to email us at info@thelightelves.ca with the dates you're unavailable. If you're away when we notify you, please arrange for a neighbour or family member to have your lights set out and ready for our crew.
If we contact you to schedule your Early Bird installation and you are unavailable, without having let us know in advance or arranged for your lights to be set out, your installation will be rescheduled at our next availability and standard installation rates will apply.
Scheduling
Installations are scheduled based on crew availability, the type of job and location. We group nearby jobs to reduce travel, and we watch the weather closely, since high winds, snow and ice can affect what we can safely install. Because of this, we book only a few days of installs at a time and will give you a couple of days' notice before your installation. Please reply to confirm your date. If we don't receive your confirmation in time, our crew will bypass your home and circle back the next time we're in your area. Because bookings run weeks in advance, confirming promptly is the best way to secure your installation this season.
Your Lights Must Be Ready
If your lights are stored at your home, they must be set out, tested and ready before our crew arrives. Confirming your installation date tells us your lights are ready.
If our crew arrives and can't complete the installation because lights aren't set out, aren't working or can't be found, a $250 minimum service fee applies to cover crew time and fuel. Your deposit will be applied to this fee. Because our season is short and our schedule is full, a return visit can't be guaranteed.
Lights Supplied by The Light Elves
If you purchased your contractor-grade lights from The Light Elves, we come prepared with extra strands in case any need replacing, so you are not expected to provide extras. We do ask that you test your lights before installation day to make sure nothing has happened to them in storage.
Client-Supplied Lights
We install client-supplied lights at our posted rates, but we don't warranty lights we didn't supply. Please unbox the strands and remove the tags before installation day.
Residential-grade lights, including any residential-grade lights previously supplied by The Light Elves (equivalent to Canadian Tire NOMA lights), are treated as client-supplied lights. We no longer supply residential-grade lights, and those previously supplied are now past their warranty.
If you are providing your own lights, you are responsible for testing them and having enough strands to complete the job, plus 1–2 spare strands on hand. Store-bought and residential-grade lights can develop loose connections or begin to flicker from year to year, even when they haven't been handled, and even lights that tested fine can fail during installation.
Trees are living and grow from year to year. If we are relighting a tree with your own lights, it is reasonable to expect to add a strand or two each year to account for growth.
If a strand fails or we run short during installation and no spare strands are available, we will charge for the installation completed. If strands have to be removed because they weren't ready or working, the $250 minimum service fee still applies. Because our schedule is full, we can't guarantee a return visit, and any return visit caused by client-supplied lights is charged as a service call.
Power and Access
Please make sure outdoor power is accessible on installation day and keep the driveway clear for our crew. For tree installations, you are responsible for providing heavy-duty outdoor extension cords from your power source to the base of each tree. We plug lights in at ground level, and we recommend a timer. If you ask us to plug in at the soffit, we can't return to troubleshoot those connections.
Tree Installations
Tree lighting is best installed when trees are dormant. Some small branch breakage and natural debris is a normal part of installation. We remove larger debris, but detailed cleanup of small twigs, needles and leaves is not included. Lights left on a tree year-round should be adjusted or removed at least every two years to protect the tree.
Travel
A travel charge may apply to installations outside Calgary city limits. It will be shown on your estimate.
Warranty
Contractor-grade lights purchased from The Light Elves are covered by our warranty. Please see our Warranty page for details. Warranty touch-ups must be reported before December 20.
Takedown
Takedown can be prepaid and is scheduled by month (January through April), weather permitting. We route takedowns by area. If your scheduled visit is missed, it may move to the next month or carry an extra travel charge.
Govee Permanent Lights
We install Govee Pro lights as an installer only. Warranty, app, pairing and technical support are the manufacturer's responsibility. Govee lights must be installed in temperatures of about 10°C or warmer.
