How much does Christmas light installation cost in Calgary?

It's priced by the foot of roofline. Your first year is $7/ft, because we build your lights; every year after, you own them, so it's $2/ft to reinstall them. Here's every rate, and how yours is estimated.

What drives the price?

Mainly the length of your roofline. Then whether it's your first year or a returning season, the breaks and dormers, whether the lights are ours or yours, and your trees. The minimum installation charge is $250: if the installation comes to less, it's charged as $250. Lights and cords you buy from us go on top and never count toward it, and neither does the takedown.

  • Roofline length

The main factor. Every foot of eaves, gables and peaks you'd like lit gets a strand built to fit: $7/ft in your first year, which is $5/ft for the lights plus $2/ft to install them.

  • Breaks and dormers

Each roofline break (where the roofline steps up, down or stops) and each dormer needs an extension cord: a one-time $17 purchase, with no extra installation charge. It's charged when we supply the lights, in your first year or with new lights, so returning clients reusing our lights don't pay it again.

  • Permanent lights

Govee Pro permanent installation is $5.85/ft. Two-storey homes usually need a boom lift, which adds $100, and each roofline break or dormer adds $30. The $250 minimum installation charge applies too, and there's no takedown: the lights stay up.

  • Trees

Quoted from a photo of your tree, because every tree is a different size and shape.

  • Our lights or yours

Our lights are built for your home, with a 5-year warranty when you use our setup and takedown service. Your own lights (not from us) are $32.50 per strand to install, but they aren't warrantied.

  • First year or returning

Year one includes building your lights. After that you own them, so returning seasons are $2/ft to reinstall them, or $7/ft if you'd like new lights.

How is my price worked out?

Every home is priced on its own roofline, so we don't publish prices for example homes. The estimator applies the rates on this page to your answers and gives you a rough estimate in about a minute: a starting price and a range. Your final quote comes after the Elves review your home on Google Street View and your photos, using these same rates. It's free, and there's no commitment.

Is it priced per foot?

Yes. Seasonal lights are $7/ft in your first year: $5/ft for the lights, which are yours to keep, plus $2/ft to install them. Each year after, it's $2/ft to reinstall the lights we installed for you, or $7/ft if you'd like new lights. Takedown in spring is 40% of the installation amount, shown as its own line on your estimate. Govee Pro permanent installation is $5.85/ft. Your final quote comes after the Elves review your home on Google Street View and your photos, using these same rates.

How it's worked out

  1. Your 100 ft is worked out as 90% to 110% of it: 90 to 110 ft.
  2. Lights & custom strands: 90 to 110 ft × $5/ft = $450 to $550.
  3. Installation: 90 to 110 ft × $2/ft = $180 to $220, under the $250 minimum, so it's charged as $250.
  4. No breaks or dormers, so no extension cords.
  5. No travel charge in Calgary.
  6. This season: lights + installation = $700 to $800, rounded outwards to the nearest $10: $700 – $800.
  7. Takedown: 40% of $180 to $220 = $72 to $88, on its own line.
  8. Each year after, reusing the lights: $250 to install, plus $72 to $88 takedown.

  • How much does Christmas light installation cost in Calgary?

In Calgary, our seasonal Christmas light installation is $7/ft of roofline in your first year, then $2/ft each year after to reinstall the same lights, with a $250 minimum installation charge and takedown in spring at 40% of the installation amount. The first-year rate is $5/ft for the lights we custom-build for your home, which you keep, plus $2/ft to install them, so returning years cost much less. Each roofline break or dormer adds a one-time $17 extension cord, and trees are quoted from a photo of your tree. Your final quote comes after the Elves review your home on Google Street View and your photos, using these same rates.

  • How is the price calculated?

In Calgary, your price is your roofline length in feet times $7/ft in your first year ($5/ft for the lights plus $2/ft to install them), plus a one-time $17 extension cord for each roofline break or dormer. The installation part is never less than the $250 minimum, and takedown in spring is 40% of the installation amount, shown on its own line. Outside Calgary city limits a $60 travel charge applies, waived when neighbours in the same area also book, and there's none for Bearspaw or Springbank. Your final quote comes after the Elves review your home on Google Street View and your photos, using these same rates.

  • Do returning clients pay less?

Yes: returning clients in Calgary pay $2/ft to reinstall the lights we installed for them, instead of the $7/ft first-year rate, because they already own the lights. They don't pay for extension cords again, but the $250 minimum installation charge still applies, and takedown in spring is still 40% of the installation amount. The deposit is lower too: 25% for returning clients, 50% for new clients, and new lights, if you'd like them, are $7/ft again.

  • Is takedown included?

Yes: takedown is part of every seasonal Christmas light installation in Calgary, priced on its own line of your estimate at 40% of the installation amount. It never counts toward the $250 minimum installation charge, and you can prepay it with your install or pay for it later. Prepaying keeps things easy after Christmas, when nobody wants another bill. Most of our regular clients prepay.

  • Do I keep the lights?

Yes. The lights we custom-build for your home are yours: in your first year you pay $5/ft for the lights plus $2/ft to install them. That's why future years cost much less: $2/ft to reinstall the lights we installed for you.

  • Is there a deposit?

Yes. A deposit confirms your booking. It's 50% for new clients and 25% for returning clients. It shows you're committed before our Elves dedicate a two-person crew, a vehicle, fuel and their time to your home.

  • Do you charge travel outside Calgary?

We serve Calgary and the surrounding areas. A $60 travel charge applies outside Calgary city limits, waived when neighbours in the same area also book. There's no travel charge for Bearspaw or Springbank.

  • What is Early Bird?

Early Bird is our early install window, mid-September to the end of October. It's better for the lights. The weather is generally better for installing. You can leave them unplugged until you want them on. Early bird access closes Thanksgiving Monday.
